ONLINE VIDEO PIANO LESSONS FOR CHILDREN FROM 3 TO 103!

LESSON FIVE

This video lesson is primarily a theory lesson. Since beginning pianists - especially young ones - can get overwhelmed by new terminology and symbols, games are used as much as possible for an entertaining and fun way to review.

Even though we are focusing on theory with these videos, please remember to focus on learning the songs on the app. Muscle memory in the hands is very important. The "Teach Me" portion of the Anybody Can Play PIANO app is focused on muscle training/memory. Do not forget to spend time learning to play the songs on the app with the correct fingers. Let children try any songs they wish at any level because it gives them pleasure, but remember to learn the songs to the point where they can be played without the helpful arrows on the app or on a completely different piano or keyboard.

Keep reviewing the "easy" songs even after the children can play them very easily because it is a critical step in training the memory reflex.....something else that piano training develops! Training the memory reflex is a step by step process and doesn't work if "steps" are skipped. The goal is to be able to play every song on the app by memory with ease. This memory reflex trained by memorizing progressively more difficult songs on a piano/keyboard also transfers to other subjects. What a pleasant way to train a remarkable skill!

Have "Show and Tell Recitals" times where children can show how many songs they can play by memory, starting with song one!! Have them bow at the end and have everyone applaud! At other times have children play just one of the songs they know....again bow at the end.....and everyone applaud!

AND....keep singing those songs! Sing with words and colors...and move, clap, tap, dance with the songs as well!

Lesson 5B: Key Names

The 5B part of Lesson 5 is primarily visual and does not require additional materials. Just view this 5B video frequently enough so the children realize that keys have names. At this point they do not have to be able to know the names of all the keys. This comes gradually with use.
